EZ Evals

Early stage · Seeking partners

Teachers show up every day and do extraordinary work. And then it vanishes — unseen, unrecorded, unrecognized.

EZ Evals is changing that. We built a tool that captures what teachers actually do — and gives it back to them as something they’re proud of.

Not for administrators. Not for compliance. For the teacher who deserves to see that their work mattered.

The problem

Evaluation systems were built for accountability. Not for teachers.

Danielson. Marzano. T-TESS. These frameworks were designed to measure compliance — not to recognize the depth, creativity, and care that teachers bring every single day. A single observation becomes the record of a career. Teachers lose ownership of their professional narrative. And the system moves on.

“I know I’m doing good work. I just have no way to show it — to anyone.”

— A sentiment shared by teachers everywhere

The product

A highlight reel built from their own evidence — owned by the teacher.

Teachers upload artifacts from their normal teaching life. EZ Evals uses AI to recognize instructional practices aligned to their district’s framework. The teacher reviews, accepts, and builds their own narrative. The result is a professional highlight reel that belongs to them — not to the system.

Step 01

Upload artifacts

Lesson plans, assessments, reflections, photos — things already created, not created for evaluation.

Step 02

AI surfaces indicators

The system maps uploads to their district’s framework and offers evidence highlights for review — advisory only, never automated.

Step 03

Teacher owns the narrative

Accept AI suggestions, override them, or write your own. The highlight reel is built from your choices, in your voice.

What’s already built

A functioning MVP — not just a concept.

EZ Evals exists today as a working Next.js application designed with intentional constraints around data ownership and human decision-making. A pilot school is confirmed and ready.

Teacher-owned artifact uploads with structured metadata

AI-generated framework alignment suggestions — advisory only, with confidence indicators attached to each

Explicit teacher decisions captured as first-class data: accept, override, or ignore

Clear separation between individual teacher views and schoolwide aggregation

Cloud-native architecture on AWS — S3, Lambda, Bedrock, DynamoDB — built for privacy and scale

Our principles

Responsible AI by design. Not surveillance — recognition.

No automated judgments

AI suggestions are never decisions. Teachers stay in control at every step.

No scoring or ranking

EZ Evals generates no evaluative labels. It surfaces patterns, not verdicts.

Teacher-owned data

All instructional evidence remains the teacher’s. Schools see only aggregated, non-identifiable insights.

Human in the loop

Every AI output requires an explicit teacher decision before it becomes part of their record.

The opportunity

An $18B professional development market with a recognition gap at its center.

There are 3.8 million public school teachers in the United States. Districts spend an average of $18,000 per teacher annually on professional development. Yet teacher satisfaction and retention remain in crisis — because money alone doesn’t make teachers feel seen.

Founder

Built by an educator, for educators.

Erin Fitzgerald

Erin Fitzgerald

Founder, EZ Evals

I spent over two decades as an educator — teaching, coaching, and suffering in an evaluation system that was never designed to see teachers clearly.

I watched brilliant educators shrink under the weight of checkboxes that couldn’t capture what they actually did. I felt it myself. And I couldn’t stop thinking: what if we built something that worked for teachers instead of on them?

EZ Evals is that thing. It’s not an evaluation tool. It’s a mirror — one that reflects the real work teachers do every day, in their voice, owned by them entirely.

This is personal on every level. That’s why it has to work.
